In order to provide a method for producing a metal powder and an apparatus for producing a metal powder, by which an amorphous metal powder can be easily obtained at a lower cost, after obtaining a molten metal powder (1b) by spraying a gas (2), by means of a gas spray means (12), to a molten metal (1) that is supplied by a supply means (11), a cooling medium (3) that is composed of a liquid or a liquid mist is sprayed by a cooling means (14) toward the molten metal powder (1b) within a chamber. In addition, a powder separation means separates and recovers a metal powder (1c) that is obtained by the cooling means (14) from a mixed gas that is composed of the atmosphere gas component in the chamber, the sprayed gas component by the gas spray means (12) and the vaporized component of the cooling medium (3); and a gas separation means extracts the atmosphere gas component and the sprayed gas component from the mixed gas, from which the metal powder (1c) has been separated, and supplies the atmosphere gas component and the sprayed gas component into the chamber for use as the atmosphere gas.
