Disclosed is a method for producing a modified polymer by a reaction in the presence of an anime compound (E), which is a monoamine compound represented by the general formula NR1R2R3 (R1: C1 - C20 alkyl group or aryl group; R2, R3: H, C1 - C20 alkyl group or aryl group) or a polyamine compound represented by the general formula (R4)2N(R5N)nR6N(R4)2 (R4: H, C1 - C6 alkyl group; R5, R6: C1 - C6 alkylene group; n: 0 - 20) when a compound (B) having nitroxide free radicals that are stable at normal temperatures and in the presence of oxygen, an organic peroxide (C) and a radical polymerizable monomer (D) having a functional group are reacted in a polymer (A). According to this production method, not only can the reaction temperature be reduced, but also the modification rate can be improved.
