METHOD FOR REDUCING IMAGE BLOCK EFFECTS

A method for reducing image block effects is provided. The method comprises the following steps: A. selecting image blocks which requires to be processed in current image and determining the range of the values of quantified DCT coefficients; B. adjusting the selected values of the quantified DCT coefficients of the image blocks in the range according to the selected image blocks and the pixel values of the image blocks adjoining the selected image blocks, and obtaining the result of the quantification; and C. performing the image compressed encoding to the result of the quantification. In the invention, the quantification of the DCT coefficients is adjusted according to the nature of the DCT, such that the block effects are reduced, and the objective quality and the subjective quality of the video is improved without inducting additional video illegibility. The computing complexity of the method according to the invention is low; thus the process efficiency is improved. Further more, the method according to the invention is compatible with the standard, thus there is no need for adjusting the decoder and the detail of the image would not be damaged while the block effects are reduced.
