A method of removing backing adhesive from a carpet includes the following steps: 1) removing the substrate (22) from the classified carpet (24); 2) feeding the backing adhesive (23) face of the carpet to a grinder through an active feeding device (2) composed of a pair of oppositely pressing rolls, to be ground, with a distance between the driving roll (5) and the grinding face of the grinding wheel (1) being more than 2 mm, less than 10 mm; 3) pressing the carpet (24) on with the grinding wheel (23) again through a pressing wheel device (3), to further grind the backing adhesive (23) to powder. A device specially used for the above-mentioned method, includes a grinder, a feeding device (2) and a pressing wheel device (3) disposed on a stand. The feeding device (2) includes a driving roll and a driven roll disposed on a frame support (4), with the driving roll (5) being close to the grinding wheel (10) and the driven roll (6) being pressed close to the driving roll (5). The pressing wheel device (3) includes a pressing wheel roll (25) disposed on the frame support and close to the grinding wheel (10), and a spring pressing retainer to push the pressing wheel roll (25) to a position with a prescribed distance from the grinding wheel (10).
