Abstract:
A method of selecting an antimicrobial agent which involves the microbial analysis step of analyzing the microbial phase of a sample based on DNA base sequences; and the antimicrobial agent selection step of searching for a data base having accumulated data concerning the effective concentrations of industrial antimicrobial agents on microorganisms, extracting industrial antimicrobial agents efficacious to the microbial phase, the predominant microorganism or a specific microorganism in the sample having been analyzed in the previous microbial analysis step, and then selecting an industrial antimicrobial agent therefrom. By applying this selection method to the selection of an antimicrobial agent (a slime controlling agent) in an antimicrobial treatment process, an antimicrobial effect monitoring process, a process for regulating slime in paper manufacturing, a microbial controlling process in paper manufacturing, etc., the most favorable antimicrobial agent can be easily and adequately selected within a short time. At the same time, it can be easily and adequately understood within a short time whether or not the antimicrobial effect can be exerted. Thus, troubles caused by the growth of microorganisms can be preliminarily prevented.
