Abstract:
An open loop magnetic field minesweeping system, with a small and light weight body (10) to be towed through seawater by a towing cable (14) from a helicopter or other vehicle, a single sweep cable (16) extending rearwardly a substantial distance from the body (10) with a first electrode (17) in cable, sleeve or sock form attached to the end of the sweep cable (14), and a second electrode (18) positioned forwardly of the body (10) to be towed and extending along and connected to the towing cable (14). A rectifier and transformer on the body (10) convert AC power fed to the towed body (10) from the towing vehicle, to DC power applied across the first (17) and second (18) electrodes. A plurality of fairings (30) attached to the towing cable (14) each have an electrically conductive portion electrically isolated from the towing cable (14). The electrically conductive portions are electrically connected together to form the second electrode (18).
