Abstract:
Provided is an optical switch enabling individual bias control with respect to a two-input two-output optical switch and an optical gate. The invention is provided with: two-input two-output optical switches connected to multiple stages; optical gates provided respectively to N optical output ports; drive circuits for operating the two-input two-output optical switches; and drive circuits for operating the optical gates. The drive circuits for operating the two-input two-output optical switches are integrated in the vicinity of a control electrode on a waveguide of the two-input two-output optical switches. The drive circuits for operating the optical gates are integrated in the vicinity of a control electrode on a waveguide of the optical gates. The waveguide of the two-input two-output optical switches and the waveguide of the optical gates have a p-layer, an i-layer, and an n-layer formed in that order on a semi-insulating substrate. The optical switches have a groove that reaches to the semi-insulating substrate between the two-input two-output optical switches and the optical gates. The grooves separate the p-layer of a region of the two-input two-output optical switches and the p-layer of a region of the optical gates.
