Disclosed is a photochromic material characterized in that it comprises a bi-imidazole compound represented by General Formula (1-1). (In the formula, R4 and R5 each independently represent halogen atoms or alkyl groups, R1-R3 and R6-R8 each independently represent hydrogen atoms, halogen atoms, alkyl groups, fluoroalkyl groups, hydroxyl groups, alkoxy groups, amino groups, alkylamino groups, carbonyl groups, alkylcarbonyl groups, nitro groups, cyano groups or aryl groups. Ar1-Ar4 each independently represent substituted or unsubstituted aryl groups. R4 together with R3 can form a condensed substituted or unsubstituted aryl ring and R5 together with R6 can form a condensed substituted or unsubstituted aryl ring.)
