A photoelectric adapter and a communication system. The photoelectric adapter comprises an optical connector (20) and an electric connector (30) that are stacked. The optical connector (20) has a first connecting end (a) used for mating with a peer adapter. The electric connector (30) has a second connecting end (b) used for mating with the peer adapter. The first connecting end (a) and the second connecting end (b) are the same in opening direction, so that when being connected to the peer adapter, the first connecting end (a) and the second connecting end (b) can be separately connected to the peer adapter. In addition, the first connecting end (a) can slide with respect to the second connecting end (b) along the insertion direction of the peer adapter. The first connecting end (a) is configured to be connected to the peer adapter prior to the second connecting end (b). Connecting the optical connector (20) to the peer adapter prior to the electric connector (30) ensures that a channel for transmitting electric signals is communicated only after a channel for transmitting optical signals is first communicated, thereby avoiding the occurrence of fiber burning, and improving the safety and reliability of the photoelectric adapter during use.
