Abstract:

A polymer having a polymer chain being chemically bound with a fine carbon fiber is prepared by allowing the surface of a carbon fiber having a diameter of 0.5 to 200 nm and an aspect ratio (length/diameter) of 5 or more to support a metal as a metal complex and carrying out a polymerization reaction by the use of the resultant product as a polymerization catalyst. The above polymer itself or a polymer composite formed by mixing the above polymer with another polymer contains fine carbon fibers being dispersed high uniformly and finely in a matrix, and thus can be used as a material excellent in electroconductivity, transparency, mechanical characteristics, heat resistance and the like.
