Abstract:

A process for preparing a tetrahydroquinolone ether represented by formula (I) and a novel intermediate represented by formula (VIII) for preparing said ether; wherein R1 represents a straight-chain or branched alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R3 represents an alkylsulfonyloxy, arylsulfonyloxy, acyloxy or hydroxy group or a halogen atom. This process is characterized in that a 3-substituted 1,2-propylene oxide or 3-substituted 1,2-propanediol is reacted with octahydroquinoline-2,5-dione in the presence of an acid catalyst to produce a compound of the above general formula (VII), which is then reacted with an alkylamine represented by the formula of R1-NH2 (wherein R1 is as defined above) to produce a novel compound represented by formula (VIII), (wherein R1 is as defined above), which is then reacted with a dehydrogenative ring opening reagent to obtain the compound of formula (I).
