Abstract:

A process for producing desmethylcyproheptadine which comprises reacting cyproheptadine with an oxidizing agent to obtain the N-oxide of cyproheptadine and reacting the oxide with a salt of divalent iron. The process does not generate a sparingly decomposable alkyl halide.
