Abstract:

The invention provides a process for the production of fluorinated sulfonyl fluorides useful as the material of ion -exchange resins or the like and novel chemical substances useful as the intermediate in the process. Namely, a process which comprises oxidizing a compound of the general formula: Y-S-R^A-E-R^B with an oxidizing agent containing a halogen atom as the essential constituent into a compound of the general formula: XSO₂-R^A-E-R^B, subjecting the obtained compound as such when X is a fluorine atom or after the conversion of X into a fluorine atom when X is a halogen atom other than fluorine to reaction with fluorine in a liquid phase to obtain a compound of the general formula: FSO₂-R^AF-E^F-R^BF, and decomposing this compound into a compound of the general formula: FSO₂-R^AF-COF (wherein R^A is a divalent organic group such as alkylene; R^B is a monovalent organic group such as perfluoroalkyl; E is -CH₂OCO-; Y is a monovalent organic group such as cyano; X is a halogen atom; R^AF is a divalent organic group obtained by fluorinating R^A or the like; R^BF is the same group as R^B or the like; and E^F is -CF₂OCO-).
