Abstract:

A process for purifying fluorinated hydroxyl compounds of general formula (1): R?f¿-CR?1¿R?2¿-OH (wherein R?f¿ is C¿1?-C¿20? polyfluoroalkyl; and R?1¿ and R?2¿ are each hydrogen or C¿1?-C¿3? alkyl) in high yields with safety under industrially performable conditions either by distilling a mixture containing both a fluorinated hydroxyl compound (1) (such as 2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropanol) and a compound having an unshared electron pair under heating in the presence of a solid acid catalyst such as a cation exchange resin or by adding a proton source (e.g., water) to such a mixture as described above and distilling the obtained mixture.
