Abstract:
Using chain analysis, a rice field resistance gene pi21 is successfully isolated and it is found out that the field resistance of a plant against rice blast (Pyricularia orizae) could be possibly modified by transferring this gene or inhibiting the expression thereof. Thus, it becomes possible to efficiently impart field resistance to a plant. It also becomes possible to select a rice plant having the field resistance against rice blast at the early stage. Moreover, it becomes possible to construct a variety having a high resistance and characteristics highly useful in practice by altering the tissue expression specificity or expression level of a gene relating to the filed resistance.
