Abstract:
A methacrylic resin for optical screen that exhibits high heat resistance, low water absorptivity and lowered birefringence, for example, a resin for use as a Fresnel lens sheet, lenticular lens sheet and front panel constituting a translucent screen of projection TV. The methacrylic resin for optical screen is characterized in that it has a Vicat softening temperature of ≥ 105°C, a pencil hardness of ≥ 3H and a birefringence of ≤ 150 nm in the form of a 2 mm thick sheet molding, and that the methacrylic resin comprises 50 to 80 wt.% of methyl methacrylate and 20 to 50 wt.% of aromatic vinyl monomer, and that the aromatic vinyl monomer consists of styrene and &agr -methylstyrene wherein the styrene/&agr -methylstyrene ratio is in the range of 0.4 to 18.
