Abstract:
The present invention relates to a side airbag device for a vehicle and comprises: an airbag cushion that is embedded in the backrest of a seat and is expanded and deployed to correspond to the entire side of the upper body of an occupant when a collision occurs with the side of a vehicle; and an inflator which generates gas due to an impact detection signal when the collision occurs with the side of the vehicle and supplies the gas to the airbag cushion, wherein the airbag cushion is expanded and deployed to the side of the pelvis, abdomen, and chest of the occupant at the initial stage of the collision, and then sequentially expanded and deployed to the side of the head part of the occupant, and thus, an airbag cushion that extends further upward compared to a general side airbag is applied, such that, even if the occupant rotates the backrest rearward and assumes an inclined lying position, the head part of the occupant can be safely protected.
