Abstract:
Provided is a sintered friction material for a brake which has a high coefficient of friction and with which it is possible to suppress reductions in the coefficient of friction and maintain stabilized braking performance even in high-temperature regions. A sintered friction material containing a solid lubricant (a) and a friction-adjusting material (b) and having Ni or Ni + Fe (small quantity) as a metal matrix, wherein: the friction-adjusting material (b) contains metal or alloy particles (b1) that comprise one or more species selected from among W, Mo, Cr, Fe, and W and that have an average grain diameter of 50 μm or more, and inorganic particles (b2) that comprise one or more species selected from among oxides, nitrides, carbides, and intermetallic compounds; and the average grain diameter db1 of the metal or alloy particles (b1) and the average grain diameter db2 of the inorganic particles (b2) satisfy the relationship db1 < db2. The metal or alloy particles (b1) and the inorganic particles (b2) satisfying specific conditions as the friction-adjusting material (b) are dispersed into the metal matrix, whereby a particle geometric structure (particle high-filler-density structure) suitable for suppressing plastic deformation of the sintered friction material is obtained.
