Abstract:

Provided is a sliding member which has improved wear resistance and load-carrying capacity, while achieving improved seizing resistance by suppressing exposure of a porous layer. A sliding member (1) is a constituent part of a cylindrical bearing, and the inner circumferential surface of the sliding member (1) serves as a sliding layer (5) for the shaft. With respect to the sliding member (1), a porous layer (3), which is formed of an alloy material, is formed on the surface of a metal base (2), and the porous layer (3) is covered with a resin material (4), thereby forming the sliding layer (5). A metal powder (30), which forms the porous layer (3) of the sliding member (1), has particle diameters of 15-60 μm, preferably about 25-45 μm. In addition, the porous layer (3) of the sliding member (1) has a thickness within the range of 0.06-0.1 mm, and the sliding layer (5) of the sliding member (1) has a thickness of 0.08-0.16 mm. The thickness of the sliding layer (5) is set to be thicker than the thickness of the porous layer (3) on average so that the porous layer (3) is not exposed.
