Abstract:
A process for the production of styrene-modified polyethylene resin beads which comprises the step of dispersing 100 parts by weight of polyethylene resin beads which contain an inorganic nucleating agent and have a melting point of 95 to 115&ring C, 20 to less than 300 parts by weight of a styrenic monomer, and a polymerization initiator in an aqueous suspension of a dispersant, the step of heating the obtained dispersion to such a temperature that substantial polymerization of the styrenic monomer does not occur to thereby impregnate the polyethylene resin beads with the monomer, and the step of polymerizing the monomer at a temperature of (T) to (T + 25)&ring C (wherein T is the melting point of the polyethylene resin beads).
