Abstract:
A temperature indicating beverage cup for use by a drinker of a contained hot beverage (4), comprising a ceramic beverage holding cup (2) and an integral applied thermochromatic display (6) fixedly printed on the outside wall of the ceramic cup (2). The thermochromatic display (6) has a plurality of printed segments (X = 8, 10, 12, 14, 16), each segment correlating to a different temperature range, from "lukewarm" to "very hot". At room temperature all segments (8, 10, 12, 14, 16) are opaque. As the temperature of the beverage (4) reaches the temperature range of a segment (X), the thermochromatic feature of the display (6) causes that segment (X) to transition from opaque to transparent, at the same time revealing a written or numeric indication of its temperature range. In this way the drinker can make an informed decision as to when it is safe to drink the hot beverage (4) without having to test it by mouth.
