Disclosed is a method for starting a navigation function of a terminal, the method comprising: acquiring X-direction, Y-direction and Z-direction acceleration of the terminal in the first unit of time (S11); judging whether the absolute values of the X-direction and Y-direction acceleration changes reach a first threshold value and a second threshold value respectively, and whether the value of the Z-direction acceleration change reaches a third threshold value (S12); if the absolute values of the X-direction and Y-direction acceleration changes reach a first threshold value and a second threshold value respectively, and the value of the Z-direction acceleration change reaches a third threshold value, obtaining the value of the distance between the terminal and the human body, and if the distance value between the terminal and the human body reaches a fourth threshold value, starting the navigation function of the terminal (S13). Further provided in the present invention is a terminal. The present invention can start a navigation device intelligently, bringing convenience to users, enhancing security and improving user experience.
