Abstract:
The present invention ensures that even when, e.g., 24-Hz moving-image data is transmitted after being encoded at a 60 Hz frame rate, the data will be satisfactorily displayed at 120 Hz on the reception side. Each picture constituting moving-image data having a first bit rate is encoded at a second frame rate greater than the first frame rate, and a video stream having the second frame rate is obtained. Identification information indicating the relationship of synchronism between the first frame rate and a display start timing is inserted in the encoded image data of each picture constituting the video stream having the second frame rate. The video stream having the second frame rate into which the identification information was inserted is transmitted.
