Abstract:
A handle (62) for a utility knife (60) includes a housing (70) made up of two or more portions (76, 78). In one embodiment, a manually operable member (74) for use in releasing the blade (64) is retained to at least one portion of the housing (70) and does not become separated from the housing (70) when the housing (70) is in an open state. In another embodiment, a catch (362) for engaging the blade (64) extends from a support member (360) that is slidably movable within the housing (70). In another embodiment, the housing (70) is formed of metal and a nose portion (80) is formed of metal that is more wear resistant than the rest of the housing (70). In another embodiment, a bail screw (395) is captured on a first housing portion (376) and threadedly engageable with a second housing portion (378).
