Abstract:
A variable Optical Low Pass Filter (vOLPF) (10) having a reduced thickness is provided. The vOLPF (10) comprises: two opposing transparent substrates (110, 120); two opposing transparent electrodes (130, 140); two opposing liquid crystal alignment layers (150, 160); and a liquid crystal layer (170) which is sandwiched between the two opposing transparent substrates (110, 120) each having the transparent electrode (130, 140) and the liquid crystal alignment layer (150, 160) thereon, and wherein the birefringence of the liquid crystal layer (170) can be tunable.
