Abstract:
Disclosed is a water pump provided with a mechanical seal provided between a housing and a rotary shaft, to suppress leakage of cooling water from a vortex chamber. A space to which cooling water leaking through a clearance between the mechanical seal and the rotary shaft is introduced, and a water drain hole through which the introduced cooling water is discharged are formed in the housing. The housing is connected to a thermostat cover, to define a water storage portion communicating with the water drain hole. The water storage portion is provided with a drain port through which evaporated cooling water is discharged to the atmosphere, and a control wall for preventing the cooling water from being discharged in the liquid state through the drain port.
