[Problem] The purpose of the present invention is to provide a wireless communication system capable of appropriate transfer of residual data according to the environment of a node forming a destination cell for a mobile device. [Solution] In order to solve the above-mentioned problem, a wireless communication system is provided with switching equipment, a first base station connected by wired connection to the switching equipment, a first relay station which wirelessly communicates with the first base station, and a mobile device which wirelessly communicates with the first relay station, said wireless communication system characterized in that the mobile device sends to the first relay station a measured result of the intensity of the signal received from at least one node which wirelessly communicates with the mobile device, the first relay station selects the handover destination node on the basis of the measured result, and when the handover destination for the mobile device is a second base station connected by wired connection to the switching equipment, the first relay station receives first residual data left behind in the first base station and transfers the first residual data together with second residual data left behind in the first relay station to the second base station.
