Abstract:
To provide dual wire welding or an additive manufacturing system and a method.SOLUTION: A welding or additive manufacturing system includes a contact tip assembly having a first outlet orifice and a second outlet orifice. A wire feeding device is configured to deliver a first wire electrode and a second wire electrode through the outlet orifices. An arc generating power source is configured to output current waveforms to the wire electrodes simultaneously through the contact tip assembly. The current waveforms include a bridging current portion and a background current portion having current level lower than the bridging current portion. The bridging current portion has current level sufficient to form bridge droplets between the wire electrodes, before the bridge droplets are transferred to a fused paddle during piling-up operation. Solid portions of the wire electrodes do not contact each other during the piling-up operation. The bridge droplets are transferred to the fused paddle during short-circuit between the fused paddle and the wire electrodes.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
