Abstract:
PURPOSE: To assure the immediate feed of fibers under a substantially constant tension when starting or continuing a stitch forming step as a result of the maintenance of a fiber tension at a prescribed value even during the formation of a fiber reserve or rapid regulation of the fiber tension to the prescribed value at the time of restarting the fiber feed after temporary interruption of the stitch formation such as that caused for each turning back movement of a carriage in, e.g. a flat type knitting machine. CONSTITUTION: A controllable fiber brake device 16 is connected to a site before a fiber pullback means for compensating a fluctuation of the fiber tension caused at the time of turning back movement of a carriage in a fiber travel passage. A turning arm 19 of the fiber pullback means is connected to an electro-mechanical torque producer 25. At the time of the turning back movement of the carriage, the fiber brake device 16 and the torque producer 25 are controlled so as to maintain the fiber tension constant.
