To solve problems on catalyst production and catalyst performance with respect to a conventional crystalline silicoaluminophosphate salt molecular sieve having eight oxygen ring pores and functioning as a non-equilibrium type methyl amine synthesis catalyst.
A hydrothermal treatment in the production of the crystalline silicoaluminophosphate salt molecular sieve having the eight oxygen ring pores is controlled under a specific treatment condition. A high purity and high crystallinity schapbachite type crystalline silicoaluminophosphate salt molecular sieve having, on a crystal grain surface, an amorphous oxide layer whose Si/Al atomic ratio is greater than that of the entire crystal grain can be stably produced with high yield by using a small quantity of a template agent. The thickness and composition of the amorphous oxide layer which exert marked influence on the yield of the dimethylamine synthesis, are easily controlled and reproduced under the condition of the catalyst synthesis of this invention. Thus, the catalyst having high performance is stably supplied by the low cost process capable of reducing the waste.
