Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress polarization conversion in a curved waveguide region of a rib type optical waveguide.SOLUTION: An optical waveguide comprises a core 13 for propagating light in a curved light propagation direction and clads 12 and 14 having lower refraction index than the core 13. The core 13 includes a slab section and a projection section 13a projecting from the slab section. The slab section includes a first slab section 13c outside of the curved light propagation direction relative to the projection section 13a and a second slab section 13b inside of the curved light propagation direction. The first slab section 13c is thinner than the second slab section 13b.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
