NEW MATERIAL:A 1,4-dihydropyridine compound of formula I [A is phenyl which may have a substituent; R2 is 1-5C straight chain or branched chain saturated or unsaturated alkyloxy (said group may be substituted with a halogen, hydroxyl group, aryl, etc.), alkylthio or a group of formula II (B is 2-5C alkylene which may be branched; R6 and R7 are H, alkyl, substitutable aralkyl, etc., or one of the R6 and R7 may form a ring together with B or may form an imide ring together with N); R3 and R5 are lower alkyl] or a salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: 2-β-(N-formylamino)ethoxycarbonylmethyl-3,5-dimethoxycarbonyl-6- methyl-4-(3'-nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine.
USE: Useful as a hypotensive agent having no adverse reaction.
PREPARATION: For example, an aldehyde compound of formula III is reacted with compounds of formulas IV and V to provide the compound of formula I.
