2-PYRIDYLSILANE, ITS PRODUCTION AND INTERMEDIATE, AND PRODUCTION OF ALCOHOL FROM 2-PYRIDYLSILANE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new 2-pyridylsilane having a pyridylsilyl group, capable of being purified by an acid-base extraction as a versatile separation and purification method, and useful as a synthetic intermediate for valuable alcohols.
SOLUTION: This new 2-pyridylsilane is expressed by formula I (wherein, R1 is an alkyl, an aralkyl, or the like; R2 and R3 are each an alkyl, an alkoxy, an aryl, or the like; R4-R7 are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, an alkoxy, or the like) and is e.g. dimethyl(2-pyridyl)(trimethylsilylmethyl)silane. The compound of formula I can be obtained e.g. by reacting (2-pyridylsilyl)methyllithiums of formula II {e.g. [dimethyl(2-pyridyl)silyl]methyllithium) with an electrophilic agent (e.g. chlorotrimethylsilane). The compound of formula II is obtained by reacting (2-pyridyl)methylsilanes of formula III with a lithiation agent. By reacting the compound of formula I with a peroxide, alcohols of formula IV can be synthesized.
