Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject propane useful as a flame-retardant for polypropylene, having a needle-like crystal form, excellent thermal stability and improved storage stability and fluidity, by dissolving the propane in a good solvent, dripping the solution in a heated poor solvent and dispersing the propane while distilling away the good solvent.
CONSTITUTION: A solution of the objective propane obtained by brominating 2,2-bis(4-allyloxy-3,5-dibromophenyl)propane in a good solvent or a solution obtained by dissolving the objective propane in a good solvent is dripped into a heated poor solvent having a higher boiling point than the good solvent and the objective propane is dispersed into the poor solvent while distilling away the good solvent and the objective propane is recovered as white needle-like crystal dispersed into the poor solvent. Preferably the objective propane has 3-50μm average particle diameter, 30-70 APHA value when heated at 180°C for 20 minutes and redissolved in chloroform, 0kg hardness of blocking occurring by heating at 80°C for 10 hours, 30-45° angle of repose, 25-50° angle of collapse and 40-45° angle of spatula.
