Abstract:

To modify and adapt future shifts based on past shifts to improve the shift quality of a transmission by comparing the actual clutch fill period with a prescribed clutch fill period and modifying the clutch fill period of a next shift of a predetermined clutch.

The control is adapted by modifying the initial inclination level (inclining period is not changed) based on the comparison between the actual fill time and a desired fill time; for example, by commanding a predetermined clutch for the next shift. By this adaptive control, the initial inclination level (the height of the starting point of inclining) is lowered by a prescribed quantity (a large or a small quantity) in order to reduce the flow rate of fluid. Therefore, the actual fill time is extended and the fill time is completed around a desired fill time, so the shift quality will be improved.
