PURPOSE: To obtain the subject agent useful for preventing/treating periodontoclasia due to periodontosis, esp. intractable periodontosis involving matrix metaprotease sthenia, containing, a specific peptidyl hydroxamic acid derivative or its salt, as active ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: This agent contains, as active ingredient, a peptidyl hydroxamic acid derivative (salt) of the formula R-Gly-Pro-X1-X2-NHOH (R is H, acetyl, etc.; X1 is D- or L-Leu residue; X2 is Gly residue or D- or L-Ala residue; respective amino acid residues and the carboxyl and NHOH in X2 are bound by peptide linkages). Sterile preparation of a formula softening agent (ointment) by incorporating the active ingredient with an antiinflammatory analgesic for teeth treatment such as guaiacol, an antibiotic such as tetracycline significantly improves the preventive/therapeutic effect of the active ingredient. It is preferable that the content of the active ingredient in the ointment be 0.1-500mg/g.
