Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect an air turbulence even if an eddy interval has widened after time has elapsed since the occurrence of the air turbulence.
SOLUTION: In this air turbulence detection device, a Doppler velocity calculating part 1 calculates a spatial distribution of Doppler velocities within an observation range based on signals related to electromagnetic waves reflected by a turbulence. A template setting part 2 which is capable of setting velocity distribution templates modeling the velocity distributions of turbulences sets individual velocity distribution templates adapted to individual assumed values of the interval between two eddies which form the turbulence, while the setting part varies the assumed values. A template matching result reserving part 4 calculates the similarities between the spatial distribution of Doppler velocities calculated by the Doppler velocity calculating part 1 and the individual velocity distribution templates set by the template setting part 2. Based on the individual similarities calculated, an eddy interval determining part 5 determines the interval of the eddies. Based on the determined interval of the eddies, an index related to the strength of the turbulence is obtained.
