PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an algicide excellent in algicidal effect and having long lasting algicidal effect, and an algicidal method using the same.SOLUTION: An algicide containing trimethyl alkylammonium salt represented by the general formula (1) is added to a water system directed to algicidal. In the formula (1), R represents an alkyl group having 12 or more carbon atoms and A represents an anion.
