To provide an apparatus and method for casting in which the volume of a riser part can be reduced much further, without losing risering efficiency.
Into each riser port 4 which is opened in a cavity 2, an insulation means 6 for each of the riser ports 4 is inserted, the cavity 2 is filled with molten metal 5 to each of the riser port 4, and then the molten metal 5 in each of the riser ports 4 is kept hot. Each of the insulation means 6 is inserted into each of the riser ports 4 such that a suppression surface 9a of each of the insulation means 6 is positioned at the same height as each other. The suppression surface 9a suppresses rising of the molten metal 5 in the riser port 4 into which the insulation means 6 is inserted, over the suppression surface 9a.
