Title:
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR STRIPPING ARMOR FROM WIRE AT CONTROLLABLE DEPTH
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0370412
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To strip an insulation coat accurately in safety by an arrangement wherein a cutter means cuts into the insulator up to a controlled depth and a carriage pulls a cut piece of the insulator to strip the insulator longitudinally. CONSTITUTION: A carriage is provided with a wire guide/centering unit for centering a wire accurately while holding independently from the movement of a cutter. A geared motor 134 controls the axial position of a cam 115 thus controlling the movement of cutters in the approaching direction and the cutting depth into the wire insulator when a spindle is turning. A main controller operates the motor 134 to open the cutters (pull in) and then operates a carriage motor to shift the carriage to a position corresponding to the length of the insulator. Furthermore, the positioning motor 134 is operated by the controller to shift the cutter radially inward by a controlled amount in order to cut the insulator radially by a selected thickness. Finally, the carriage is shifted radially and the cutter is pulled axially thus removing the insulator from the wire.
