PURPOSE: To provide an artificial fang composed of a ceramic composed mainly of SiC at the part embedded into alveolar bone and coated with a phosphate glass and further with calcium phosphate ceramic at the part contacting with gingiva.
CONSTITUTION: The objective artificial fang 1 is made of a ceramic composed mainly of SiC at least at the part embedded into the alveolar bone B. The part of the ceramic contacting with the gingiva A is coated with the 1st layer 3 composed of a phosphate glass of formula P2O5-MO (MO is alkali or alkaline- earth metal, etc.) and with the 2nd layer 4 composed of a calcium phosphate ceramic (e.g. apatite). Since a fibrillar connective tissue develops perpendicular to the surface of the artificial fang (and the alveolar bone) similar to natural pericemental membrane, the fang has excellent bio-compatibility and mechanical balance as well as biochemical stability and can be applied to patient without giving unpleasantness.
