Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an asphalt composition having a large low-temperature elongation and capable of exhibiting excellent mechanical properties and workability for construction by compounding an asphalt with an ethylene- aromatic vinyl compound copolymer having a specific composition and structure.
SOLUTION: This composition contains (A) 1-99 pts.wt. of an asphalt and (B) 99-1 pts.wt. of an ethylene-aromatic vinyl compound copolymer mainly having a structure of formula I [Ph is an aromatic group such as phenyl; (x) is an integer of two or more, (y) is an integer of one or more, and (z) is 0 or 1], in which the stereoregularity of phenyl in an alternative structure of an ethylene of formula II [(x') is an integer of two or more] and an aromatic vinyl compound has an isotactic diad fraction (m) of ≥0.75 and whose aromatic vinyl compound content is 1-55mol.%. The component B can be prepared by polymerizing ethylene and an aromatic vinyl compound monomer in the presence of a specific transition metal compound and a cocatalyst.
