PURPOSE: To enable access to loaded baggage on a base from either side by providing the base to be fixed on a roof top rack of an automobile, and a cover to cover that, and composing the cover to be movable upward by a pair of a right and a left link cylinder mechanisms.

CONSTITUTION: A roof top carrier 10 is composed of a base 14 engaged with a rack 9 installed on a top surface of a roof 4 of an automobile to be detachably fixed, and a cover 12 detachably installed on it, and the base 14 is formed like a plate to contain baggage. For controlling move of the cover 12 to the base 14, a pair of link cylinder mechanisms 50 are provided, so the cover 12 can be opened upward. Each link cylinder mechanism 50 is composed of a pair of links 54, 64 installed on a vertical bracket 52 integrally formed with a circumferential edge groove member 26 at a position close to a rim of the base 14, a vertical link 58, a gas cylinder 78A, etc.
