PURPOSE: To attain connection confirmation with a backup line without interrupting communication at an active line by communicating exact data at a call incoming station side, and communicating intentionally changed data or artificially constituted fixed data at a calling station side.
CONSTITUTION: A backup test is instructed from a network monitoring device 19 at the calling station. Then, a calling operation is operated from a MODEM 13 through a backup device 13B and a backup line BL to the opposite party station according to the instruction, and backup device 15B and a MODEM 15 or the like at the opposite party station are connected according to the calling operation. After connection is ended, the transmission and reception of interface condition confirmation data for opposite station confirmation is operated between the calling station and the opposite party station. Successively, data transmission for security confirmation is operated. The exact data are communicated at the call incoming station side, and the intentionally changed data or the artificially constituted fixed data are communication at the calling station side. Therefore, connection confirmation test with the backup line BL can be attained without interrupting the communication at an active line L.
