Abstract:

To provide a thin battery separator suitable for a lithium ion battery and having a high-temperature shutdown characteristic and to provide its manufacturing method.

This battery separator is formed of fibrous porous sheet of a branched α-olefin polymer, in particular, poly-4-methyl-1-pentene having a sheet thickness of 5-100 μm, a basis weight of 5-50 g/m2, a porosity of 10-70% and the maximum pore diameter of 30 μm or less. This method is used for manufacturing the fibrous porous sheet for the battery separator by a nonwoven fabric pressing process of a melt-blown method of the branched α-olefin polymer.
