Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a novel compound which is useful as an intermediate for physiologically active substances.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of the formula I (R1 is tolyl; R2, R3 and R4 are 1-4C alkyl, phenyl; R5 is 1 to 10C alkyl, phenyl), for example, (Rs, 1R, 2R)-l- phenyl-2-(p-tolylslufinyl)-3-trimethyl-silyl)propane-l-ol. The compound of formula 1 is obtained by reaction of f3-silylsulfoxide with an aldehyde of the formula: R5-CHO in the presence of a base (such as lithium diisopropyl-amide) in a solvent such as THF at -100°C to the boiling point of the solvent. Optically active a α-substituted alcohol and γ-silyl alcohol which are useful as an intermediated for physiologically active substances can be derived from the compound of the formula I.
