PURPOSE: To obtain a boron nitride-contg. material excellent in thermal shock and corrosion resistances and strength by restricting components and especially incorporating BN and chromium carbide or chromium boride.
CONSTITUTION: This boron nitride-contg. material contains 10-90wt.% BN and 10-90wt.% chromium carbide and/or chromium boride by ≥50wt.% in total. The chromium carbide means one or more kinds of carbides selected from among Cr4, Cr7C3 and Cr3C2 having 1,520°C m.p., 1,780°C m.p. and 1,890°C m.p., respectively. The chromium boride means CrB2 having 1,900°C m.p. When the chromium carbide or chromium boride is used at a temp. below the m.p. preferably by 100°C, it has superior corrosion resistance to molten metal and molten slag like BN. The compd. is, however, a hard rigid material at such a low temp. and has low thermal shock resistance. Since the carbide or boride is combined with BN, sintering is accelerated and much higher strength than that of a conventional BN-contg. composite material is ensured.
