To provide a camera which accurately measures an amount of light reflected from a subject during preliminary light emission.

A camera includes: a control unit which performs preliminary light emission for causing a flash device to emit light prior to shooting; an optical sensor unit including multiple light receiving elements which perform first light measurement for measuring fixed light by accumulating electric charges for a first accumulation time prior to the preliminary light emission, and second light measurement for measuring light reflected from a subject according to the preliminary light emission by accumulating electric charges for a second accumulation time; an estimation unit which estimates, from a result of the first light measurement, whether or not an amount of electric charges accumulated with the fixed light at the optical sensor unit upon the second light measurement becomes greater than a predetermined amount; a sensitivity setting unit which sets, if the estimation unit estimates the amount of electric charges accumulated becomes greater than the predetermined amount, light receiving sensitivity of the optical sensor unit upon the second light measurement to light receiving sensitivity which allows the amount of electric charges accumulated with the fixed light to become not greater than the predetermined amount; and a calculation unit which calculates, from a result of the second light measurement, an amount of light emitted from the flush device during shooting.
