PURPOSE: To obtain carbon black having excellent moisture resistance and exhibiting stable electrical conductivity in a high-resistance region, by heat- treating a mixture of raw carbon black and a polymer or a bituminous substance at a specified temp. in an inert gas atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of raw carbon black and a polymer and/or a bituminous substance is heat-treated at 400W800°C in an inert gas atmosphere to obtain carbon black having a specific surface area of 20W80m2/g. hydrochloric acid absorption (JIS K1469) of 5W14ml/5g, a pH of 7 or above and iodine adsorption of 30W110mg/g. Although any carbon black may be used, that which is capable of imparting a certain degree of electrical conductivity as such is preferred. Acetylene black is preferably used.
