PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst for hydrotreating hydrocarbon oil which is easy in activation treatment by carrying the water-soluble compds. of groups VI and VIII metals in the periodic table, phosphoric acid and mercaptocarboxylic acid ester on an inorganic oxide carrier.
CONSTITUTION: The water-soluble compds. of both group VI metals such as Mo, W in the periodic table and group VIII metals such as Co, Ni, phosphoric acid and mercaptocarboxylic acid ester are carried on an inorganic oxide carrier such as alumina and silica. This mercaptocarboxylic acid ester is shown in a general formula HS-(CH2)n-COOR [wherein (n) shows integer not smaller than 1, R shows straight chain or branched chain alkyl group of 1W10C or naphthene-base alkyl group] and methyl mercaptoacetate and ethyl 2- mercaptoacetate, etc., are utilized. The catalyst obtained by such a way is made to the catalyst for hydrotreating hydrocarbon oil which has excellent performance with a simplified operation.
